Contemporary Persian dance inspired by a theme of longing. When I first accidentaly heard this song I immediately had a vision of an abbandoned lover obsesively ruminating on their lost beloved, seing their face in every little street they used to walk together, desperately trying to evoke memories of delightful times they spent together. This song can be both interpreted as soul longing for returning to God, as well as earthly love of someone who is missing their dear one (like Moulana-Rumi missed Shams-e Tabrizi)

"This song can be both interpreted as soul longing for returning to God, as well as earthly love of someone who is missing their dear one." this became funny meme in persian culture because the education system wants us to believe it is just about the god and the students say the poem literally said i want to make love with my lover how that can be related to god😅 by the way this dance we called it raghse sama or raghse sufiyaneh.
@@hamidsadeghik haha yeah, they told us same thing when I was studying Persian literature 🤣 regarding raghs-e sama' - I know, but I avoid using that name. I did field research in khaneghah regarding this particular topic and the practitioners there had very strong opinions on women performing dance in public labeled as "sama' " , so since I'm not a Sufi myself and I'm not immeresed in Islam, in ideas of shariat-tariqat-haghighat , I'd rather lable my work as contemporary dance inspired by spiritual themes. I use it as hashtags but I'm not going to claim I'm performing an authentic Sama' ritual.
@@AquilaArdens I searched if sama dance realy is a men thing but i found this video "Melieka Fathi | Robabi " on youtube that she is dancing publicly and base on her name she is persian. and also i dont think nowadays nobody see this as a man thing but If somebody really think that way even in this time its better for them to change.
@@hamidsadeghik I know Melieka, she is an Iranian American, which makes it more complicated. There are also even Iranian women in Iran who perform this publicly - but they are Iranian women. I'm a Polish woman who is only a guest to this culture, so I'd rather be more careful about how I label my work, especially that I was specifically told by women in khaneghah that in order to be a Sufi, you first need to follow shariat best as you can and that requires hijab and definitely not dancing in public as a woman. I still like spiritual themes in dancing, but I'm going to label it as "inspired" rather than claiming it to be an authentic representation of the Sufi ritual (which in fact in khaneghahs in Iran doesn't really contain much of whirling, whirling is more of Turkish mevlavi thing - which makes that whole topic even more complicated)
@@AquilaArdens Wow it seems you know this stuff more than me i mean about how they dance in iraninan version. But i get your fears about being an outsider to the culture i think it is our job to get rid of this misogynistic rules but at least me as a iranian man i am lazy in this regard. I wish you the best for continuing your career with whatever the label is.
